Friends of Grey Lynn School (FOGLS)

Mission Statement.

The Friends of Grey Lynn are a group of parents who fundraise for additional resources not provided by the Ministry of Education and also provide additional support to the teaching staff and Board of Trustees for family and community events.

Who are the Friends of Grey Lynn School?

The Friends of Grey Lynn is the equivalent of the PTA (Parent Teacher Association).  The Friends of Grey Lynn, also known as “FOGLS”, are parents and caregivers from the school who have given up some of their time to help out at the school.  Everyone is welcome to come along at any time to any meetings and put forward their ideas and help out at any of the events throughout the year.

What do FOGLS do?

They support the school in whatever way they can.  The main area of support is usually through organising fundraising activities which provide necessary supplementary funding to the school to help provide essential items for assisting with our children’s education.  These activities and events also help to build the community aspect of the school and help to provide fun, family events to further encourage this community spirit.  We are all very proud of the strong family atmosphere at Grey Lynn school.

FOGLS also help with support for the staff in helping with school events such as the Swimming Sports, Grandparents’ Day, Meet the Teacher BBQ, New Parent morning teas and this year FOGLS will have an even greater role in helping and organising the wonderful Aloha Night.

The meetings are a good communication channel between the teaching staff, the Board of Trustees and the families of the school.  Any suggestions or concerns can be raised and dealt with by the appropriate group; i.e. the Board of Trustees, the teaching staff or FOGLS.

As FOGLS are parents in the school ,it is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in your child’s education and environment and a wonderful way to meet other families in the school community.  As always everyone is busy and so it is very much appreciated that people offer to help in whatever way they can, and we even have fun!

When do the Friends of Grey Lynn School meet?

Usually once a month on a Monday evening at 7.00pm upstairs in the staff room. The dates are always mentioned in the school newsletter.
