With work set to be largely completed in December, Great North Road is on track to become a safer, more accessible, and future-ready corridor. The improvements will support easier movement and create a better environment for the fast-growing local residential community.
To make space for new loading zones, pedestrian crossings, bus stops, and cycle lanes, some kerbside parking will be impacted. We’ve worked hard to retain as much parking as possible and have taken a close look at how parking currently functions in the area.
The large P120 zones on either side of Great North Road offer good availability for visitors and customers wanting to stay up to two hours—and these zones will remain unchanged.
However, there are approximately 117 car parks at the top of side streets, plus parking on Great North Road, which is currently unrestricted. These are the areas where changes are proposed. Parking surveys show these spaces are occupied for an average of six hours per day, limiting turnover and access.
Our parking proposal aims to make the best use of available space while balancing the needs of customers, businesses, and visitors. It includes:
Time restrictions to support quick visits to local shops and services
Some paid parking options for those who need to stay longer
Your local knowledge is vital to help us refine the proposal and achieve the best outcomes.

Construction Update – The Final Push
We’ll soon begin road repairs in the centre of Great North Road, followed by resurfacing. This work is expected to be completed in December, with some final road markings—such as bus lane greening—scheduled for early in the new year.
